A Newbie! Make them feel shame!
Lou DiDomenico has just joined the site. Read more to find out more about them.
Serious Eats' Food Lab on how to grill a steak.
An article I’m sorely in need of cause I suck at grilling steak.
Batman: What comes after Nolan?
As Hollywood skews younger and younger, I’ve got a deep fear that they’re going to hire one of the Twilight hunks and make some teenage Batman movie where they retcon some ninja training into his high school years.
What I hope for is a movie version of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. There’s certainly plenty of grizzled old actors who could pulled it off, but perhaps perhaps none better than Micky Rourke, who, I imagine, has a boxer face similar to what a latter day Batman might have. And while I’m tempted to wish for a Sin City-esq Robert Rodriguez version, I think the story has the sort of potential that the Nolan stories have, to bridge into the real world. As such, I’d much rather see them snag up another up-and-coming indie director like Ramin Bahrani or Nicolas Winding Refn.
Charlie's Manuel.
People still insist that Charlie Manuel is a good manager. These people are stupid. This blog details, each game, every mistake he makes.
The Sequence of Prime
HOLY SHIT IS THIS ALBUM AWESOME
http://www.thesequenceofprime.com/
It’s a black/death/thrash/industrial mashup sort of thing. It’s free. It’s incredible. Adjectives. Get the fucking thing if you want to rock out.
Dear TheScrabbled tech support team.
I just bought myself a 1 tb hard drive, because why the hell not. It is waaaaaaay more than I need, or can fill at the moment, but sooner or late I will.
I have an art show! It's called Bones.
It’s up for another week or two. If you wanna come see it, I’ll give you a private show (pants-optional). More of the same kinda bones stuff I’ve been doing for a few years, but coming into maturity. I might move onto plants, next! If you like anything, lemme know and I’ll give you a Scrabbled discount.
SimCity
Don’t know if any of you guys are fans, but the new SimCity sounds like it could be fantastic
Rayman Legends for Wii U
I won’t buy this system until I am conviced there’s serious 3rd party support but this trailer for Rayman Legends looks pretty awesome!
Top 5 Running/Biking/Locomoting Songs
Let’s here ‘em. If I get a bunch of responses, maybe I’ll throw them up on a scrabbled mix.
Bit Brigade.
Filling the whole in my heart left in The Advantage’s 6 year absense, Bit Brigade not only covers whole NES soundtracks, but does so while some dude beats the game from start to finish. I’m so in love with this.
Defense Grid
i think i posted about this game a while back. it’s fantastic, if you like tower defense/strategy. right now you can get the game and all the DLC including the expansion for 15.99 on Steam or for like 20 bucks on xbox live. the expansion features GLaDOS, the menacing AI from Valve’s Portal franchise
The Cabin in the Woods
It’s the Raiders of the Lost Ark of horror movies, with a batshit nuts script by Joss Whedon. Go see it… but PLEASE do so without watching any of the trailers and reading anything about it whatsoever.
Birdy - Skinny Love
I know she is no longer a new thing but I just wondered what the consensus was on her. I know the stupid limeys love her and I can’t help[ but wonder if that is because of some Adele run off (eewww).
John Cleese's absolutely brilliant and insightful talk on creativity, productivity, decision-making, and problem-solving.
I loved this. It was like the dude was in my head telling me how it worked.
It seems a couple of drinks dramatically increases problem-solving skills.
And here I thought I just worked well at night cause I was a “night person.” Perhaps it was my nightcap…
iTunes Match Reviewed
Sometime earlier this year, my iTunes music library hit over 50,000 songs. Of those 50,000 songs, 34,000 had zero plays since 2007 (when I screwed up my iTunes and had to reimport everything and lose all my data). So I thought it was time to maybe clean things up a bit. My goal? Get the library down to 25,000 songs so I could use Apple’s iTunes Match service. And last night, after a month or so of regularly scrolling down and deleting things, I hit that goal.
Ze Frank's Invocation for Beginnings.
Maybe it just means I’m still young and naive, but god damn if this doesn’t make me feel pretty good about being alive. It also makes me want to go do things. Which I’m going to go do now.
You guys talk too much.
Our database got so big, I ran out of space on our server! In a way, I’m proud. Just added another few gig. Let’s see how long it takes us to blow out this hard drive, too!
Google's Augmented Reality Glasses.
I don’t care how much they cost. I don’t care how stupid I look. I am buying them and welding them onto my temples.
BASEBALL
is back. I know the regular season started about a week ago with the A’s and the Mariners playing in Japan, but tonite is the true start of the regular season with the Cards playing the Marlins in their new fishbowl of a stadium. Anyway, predictions after the jump….
Serious Eats' Guide to Bourbon.
It’s getting warm out. Time to put away the scotch and break out the bourbon. Or rye. Rye is also acceptable.
So Percussion's tribute to John Cage on NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts.
Stupid cool. Even if you hate the second piece, stick around (or skip forward to) for their brief cover of Cage’s Living Room Music afterwards.
Wil Wheaton's Table Top premiers.
A video podcast wherein Wil Wheaton and his famous geek friends (Grant Imahara!) play board games. First episode is the fantastic Smallworld (which is also available on iPad, for those of you with a lack of geeky friends to join you).
4/1/12
So what did everyone else do for April Fools? I didn’t prepare well so I was stuck with “post an ultrasound on Facebook” as a default just to get something out there.
A vaccine for heart disease in 5 years?
Sounds overly optimistic, but this is great news for me and my high cholesterol. I’ve always jokingly excused whatever poor health and bad decisions I’ve made in the past by claiming science will figure out how to fix me later. Seems I may have been on to something.
